2017 – 2018 Leadership Core
After nominations we performed a quick yay or nay vote to approve the nominees since we had just one per role. The vote was successful and our leadership core is set for the coming year. During the next vote in 2018 the Events Coordinator / “President” and Treasurer position will be available due to term limits. If you are interested in ether position members in good standing should feel free to get involved by assisting with either duty. This will prepare you to hold one of these fun, exciting and important positions.
Events Coordinator / “President” – Paul Sorice Treasurer – Robert Bandl Marketing – Lisa Bandl Secretary – Bob Walker Competition Coordinator – Chris Mc
We judged all of the Pale Commonwealth style beers this past month as our educational topic. One of our goals was to encourage exploration of uncommon styles and for members to enter the beers in BJCP competition. The results are as follows.
1st Steve Wilson – Australian Sparkling
2nd – Mike Masut – IPA
3rd- Paul Sorice – Australian Sparkling
Chris McAlexander won a gold medal for his Cantaloupe Mead in the National Homebrew competition!
Sunshine Challenge Update
Unfortunately Sunshine Challenge judging was roughly 1/2 completed as of the Awards Brunch. Some results were announced but because we feel that Gold medal winners should not have been announced prior to BOS judging we will not be posting any of the current results until the competition is complete. Medals received will be presented at our July 8th meeting.
Central Florida Homebrewers announced at the brunch that they hope to have final results in about 2 weeks time. We are awaiting a new judging schedule and plan so we can offer assistance or at least get the word out to BJCP judges.
Serving and Fellowship
PUBuild joined the Suncoast Barley Mashers and Special Hopperations at Vetterbrew to serve up a plethora of sour beers. Everything served was simply amazing and we wish we could have shared this great beer sooner.
Reminder to all entries for Sunshine Challenge and Lizard Cup need to be at Rapp by the end of business day Wednesday May 24th. Paul Sorice will be running the entries to Orlando so be sure to leave compensation with your entries or pay pal firstname.lastname@example.org for good karma.
Our first intraclub competition BJCP category 12. PALE COMMONWEALTH BEER entries will be judged at the June meeting as our educational topic. First place winner will receive a 32oz growler of Rapp beer and the top 3 beers will receive a paid entry into an upcoming competition. More details to come.
Our educational topic this month was presented by President Paul Sorice. He covered the the various wood aging products available to homebrewers and offered some suggestions on how and when to use them. View the powerpoint here.
Our June brew day has been cancelled in favor of a short break. We will be hosting a few maker events over the hot summer months which might included build your own hop spider and another to build a keg /carboy washer. We are looking to host our next brew day in September.
