News January & February 2018

Happy Brew Year! If you missed the January meeting we will get you up to speed. Remember that we do have a meeting Sunday, February 18  2pm at Rapp.

Education

This year we will be alternating introductory and advanced topics so we have great education topics for all skill levels. Our first educational topic was provided by Chris McAlexander and he brought back the all about yeast topic.  Download a copy of the presentation here.  The February educational topic will focus on lactobacillus kettle souring beer. It will focus on some of the new products and methods brewers are using to achieve great results.

Competition

Coconut Cup entries were delivered to Miami this month for judging. Results will be posted around March 3rd or 4th.  Once you know how your entries did don’t forget to enter the Hurricane Blowoff competition in Palm Beach. Registration for the Blowoff opens March 3rd. There will be a railroad from Rapp for this competition and you may begin dropping off 3/21/18. The dropoff deadline is Deadline is 3/29/18 @ 9pm. Chris McAlexander is the runner for this competition so don’t forget to donate gas money for good karma PayPal (tophermca@yahoo.com) .

Club Business

It has been suggested that we move our renewal/dues cycle to January – December with the half year beginning in July to help simplify renewal. However, because the half year membership would likely not cover the cost per member for the yearly Holiday party this change could negatively impact the club fiscally. We need further discuss this potential change. So at the February meeting we will have more discussion on this but nothing will change without a vote by the membership.

The club will have a permeant display board placed in the breezeway of Rapp Brewing with club information, upcoming events and a new PUBGuild Brewer of the Year plaque. This should be in place by March.

March Meeting

Note that the March meeting will be Saturday March 17th due to all of the Tampa Bay Beer Week festivities. It will be on St. Patricks Day so don your greenest attire and grab a green Gose.
